NORTHERN TERRITORY PONY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008

NT Pony Clubbers met at the Darwin Show Grounds on June 7 & 8 for the NTPC Championships 2008.

DHPC Champion NT Mounted Games Team

The first competition was the Prince Philip Mounted Games Championship, with three teams entered: NHPC, DHPC & KHPC. Despite the slightly smaller field of competitors, the mounted games was as hotly contested as last year, with the three teams proving to be very closely matched. Throughout the morning, all three teams were within mere points of one another, but the eventual winners were Darwin Horse and Pony Club, closely followed by Noonamah Horse & Pony Club in second, and Katherine Horse & Pony Club in third. One thing I noticed was the increase in younger riders on the games teams from all clubs, ensuring the sport will continue into the future!

Well done also to KHPC for a superb job organising the mounted games, including all that equipment, and thanks to our judge Cheryl Stevens (NT).

Following the mounted games on Saturday morning was the Dressage Championship, this time with teams from NHPC, DHPC, KHPC and BRC. The judges were Fiona Fehlberg from Tasmania, and Gail Cibilic from Queensland. They were again surprised and impressed by the level of ability the NT has, and scored the combinations accordingly -- the highest score of the day was DHPC rider Rachael Pen-Dennis and Dilletante, with 70%. It was good also to see a few individuals representing their club.

Champion Dressage team was Darwin Horse & Pony Club, followed by Reserve Champions Berrimah Riding Club. Third place was Katherine Horse & Pony Club, and fourth Noonamah Horse & Pony Club.

Individual Champions were
Under 13 years Taylor Gebert and Orana Park Royalty (BRC)
13 years & under 15 years Madina Hayman & Kiana Blue Murder (KHPC)
15 years & under 17 years Kim Henderson & Mount Tawonga Zac (KHPC)
17 years & over Rachael Pen-Dennis & Dilletante (DHPC)

Day two was the Show Jumping Championship, judged by Tracey Syrimi and course designed by name (state). Again, teams represented DHPC, NHPC, KHPC and BRC, with riders scattered across the grades. (It was good this year to see competitors in B Grade, and I hear some C grade riders have now gained enough points to be B grade) The courses were enjoyed by all competitors, providing a challenge with fill and walls everywhere!
