LHPC 2008

Litchfield Horse and Pony Club (LHPC) is located in the rural area of Darwin, and has existed since 2006. We accept riders of all age and experience, and offer a fun and engaging rally program for our riders that operates throughout the year.

LHPC Objectives

The objects and purposes of the Association are consistent with the aims of the Australian Pony Club Association (APCC) and are as follows:

1. To encourage young people to ride and to enjoy all disciplines connected with horses and riding.

2. To provide instruction in horsemanship and to instill in members the proper care of horses whether belonging to them or leased.

3. To promote the highest ideals of fellowship, citizenship and loyalty and to cultivate strength of character, self discipline and follow the Litchfield Horse and Pony Club "culture" guidelines.

4. To become affiliated members of the Pony Club Association of the Northern Territory (PCANT) and other national organizations or bodies as agreed to by the committee.

5. To endeavour to bring about uniformity in conditions governing competitions in accordance with the rules and/or by-laws of the APCC.

6. To endeavour to bring about uniformity in judging of children's equestrian classes, amateur competitive events in horsemanship and horse mastership in Australia in accordance with the methods of instruction as laid down by the APCC.

7. To establish opportunities for every child to have the opportunity to experience horse riding.

8. To conduct social activities for members and guests and to foster friendly relationships between all interested persons and similar bodies.

9. To take steps as circumstances permit to furnish a clubhouse to conduct matters in line with the needs and activities of the club membership.

At Rallies...

What to Bring!

Rally days will normally be every 2nd Sunday, this is to allow time in between lessons for students to practice and refine their skills. During the show session days may differ, so regularly check your timetable and newsletters.
The rally days will cover a wide range of horse skills - flat work, dressage, jumping, mounted games, trail riding, road safety and anything else that instructors think up to provide a range of experiences!

Theory lessons will also take place during these rally days. Our instructors and guest lecturers will provide information on feeding, first aid, show preparation, saddle fitting, veteneary issues and farrier work to name a few.

Some time in the year riders will have the opportunity to take the internationally

recognised Pony Club Certificates.

Only riders with PCANT insurance are permitted to ride on Pony Club grounds.
Rider behaviour is to be polite and courteous at all times. Your team mates are just that - mates and we help and encourage them when needed.

What happens next?
Having our rally days every fortnight allows for our pony club season to go for longer then most other pony clubs in Darwin. These days will be interrupted by gymkhanas and shows so we will work around them. Our aim is to provide more opportunities throughout the year for participation as we realise many riders will not want to attend every show.

We hope to provide trail rides, fun days and social events where possible.

Fundraising will also take on a big role over the year and we expect all members to lend a hand.
